"Mickey 17" is a messy yet beautifully layered Sci-fi story

As someone who isn't too well versed with many Sc-fi movies, I thought Mickey 17 was a entertaining joy ride with amazing acting performance from Robert Pattinson who has to play two different characters being the clones Mickey 17 & 18. The commentary on colonialism and church/ church figures made for an amazing and entertaining watch on how it was displayed in the movie. The movie's final cost was around $130 Million and every cent was felt. Even though this movie was marketed poorly I ensure you that this film is big and has plenty to say.

I felt like Pattison did a great job of showing the different and clashing personalities of the clones and you could tell that he really cared about this role and understood the world he was in, I just wish some other roles were written just as well...

The villains in this movie played by Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette felt really out of place and cartoonishly evil. I realize Mark Ruffalo's character is a loose portrayal of Donald Trump it still felt out of place and not executed well, in fact a lot of the performances in this film felt a little too cartoonish compared to Robert Pattison's performance.

I also wished we spent more time with each Mickey leading up to number 17 and 18. It was never explained well why Mickey 18's personality was so radically different from 17, we only get a brief voiceover saying that a previous version was a little more slow. If we were going to go from Mickey one to 18 (instead of 7 like the book this film is based off of) I wish we could have spent a little more time showing each Mickey becoming a little different or him losing a piece of himself each time.

Overall I think this was a solid film that did a great job commentating on colonialism, working class citizens, church, and clergy. With a loveable main character who is down on his luck, with great VFX and practical affects that will completely immerse you into this world. I still felt like the movie was a little unfocused compared to many of Bong Joon-ho previous films.
