Invincible season 4 episode 5 has the fanbase of the hit animated show in a frenzy. The episode features the much anticipated Nolan vs. Debby reunion and the return of Conquest for round 2 and it did not disappoint.

I felt like Debby's character in the show couldn't take the same route as her comic book character counterpart. The show's version is a lot more involved in the story, fleshed out, and given A LOT more to do. Her confronting Nolan about all the atrocities he's committed and how much he personally hurt his own family was perfect. Sandra Oh's performance was so good that I thought the animation couldn't keep up with how much raw emotion and hurt she was displaying in her voice. Hearing Sandra and J.K. Simmons go back and forth this episode was a treat and reminded me that even though Invincible has a lot of interesting characters, it's even better when Omni-man is actively a part of it.

Another part I feel like was VERY well written and acted was Nolan and Art's conversation on the roof. Nolan not ever having to face the consequences of his actions couldn't process why Art would be scared of him or not want to be his friend anymore. I thought it was a great choice to have Art not forgive Nolan and help Nolan realize there truly isn't anything or anyone on Earth for him anymore. I thought Mark Hamill did an amazing voice acting job here and when Nolan left and Art let out all his anxiety and fear. It showed the severe trauma Nolan left in his wake but will also serve to further make Nolan "human".
Now for the part of the episode i'm sure everyone will be talking about from years to come. Conquest popping up in space and sending Mark into a fit of pure rage and confusion was amazing to witness. Since their first encounter Mark has gone down this path questioning his morality and what it means to keep your loved ones safe. This is what makes the fight even more satisfying besides the brutality. Conquest is a "demon" that has been haunting Mark and seeing his desperate attempt to choke the life out of Conquest and seeing Conquest clinging to life while ripping out Mark's guts was an all timer. The battle of wills and seeing two titans being forced to resort to their animal instincts and doing whatever they could to outlast the other is what makes invincible one of the best told stories of our generation.
