I have been waiting for Marvel's Wolverine to come out for YEARS like many others. And after experiencing so many negative reviews online I wondered IF the game was worth it. Well I bought it anyway to play for myself and here are my thoughts.

"Wolverine" seems like a video game made just for ME. I enjoyed the game a lot and felt like the difficulty of the game was just right on "The Mutant" setting. I am someone who doesn't have a lot of spare time to game like I used to in my twenties and earlier so a linear video game like this where I don't have to endlessly grind and can just mow down my enemies with characters i'm familiar with is great! Oh and did I mention I am a HUGE Jean GreyxLogan shipper? So yeah this game gave me a lot that I personally would and DID enjoy.

Whenever characters as popular as Jean Grey and Wolverine with a history that divides a fanbase like theirs you'll always have big shoes to fill when adapting them. I'm happy to say Krizia Bajos (Jean Grey) and Liam McIntyre (Wolverine) deliver amazing performances with these characters and help sell the relationship between the two which the story heavily relies on.

However, I do think this game does have a couple of issues that I'll list below:

  1. Stealth in this game feels incomplete and doesn't have the distraction and move set mechanics that are necessary to properly enjoy the stealth moments in the game.

  2. This game has a little too much button smashing. My hand cramped a few times from having to repeatedly press the "square" button. I felt like there could've been more variety to his moves. Jean Grey combo kills felt really repetitive as well and I wish there was a way to upgrade what kind of combat she does.

  3. I do think Lady Death Strike was VERY under utilized in this game and I was massively disappointed but I loved the boss fight.

  4. Some of Logan's relationships with characters like Mystique and Sabertooth felt very underdeveloped so some of the emotional scenes later in the game felt underwhelming and not as important. I wish this "family" dynamic Sabertooth was so pissed at Logan for breaking up was demonstrated more in game. We were told this and never really shown which is important in gaming that we're allowed to be shown and experience these dynamics.

Now for my biggest positives from the game:

  1. LoganxJean just WORK in this game. The time and care taken into developing their romance was great. The amount of chemistry between the two made for smart remarks, witty dialogue, and sexy and cute banter/one liners.

  2. These are some of the BEST boss fights in the gaming studio's history. The bosses added a layer of difficulty and fun level of frustration to beat them.

  3. The motorcycle chase scenes were really fun and added adrenaline.

  4. Really cool setup for a potential sequel!

  5. The amount of playable skins in the game was really cool and appreciated!

  6. The hand were moving CRAZY in this game and that's always fun!

  7. Nicole Pacent's performance as Mystique was cool and I felt the emotional moments and dread Mystique goes experiences throughout the game.

  8. Finally I thought everyone delivered amazing performance across the board!

Overall, I grade games by stating if I would add a physical copy to my physical gaming Library or not and I'm happy to say I WOULD add "Wolverine" to my Gaming library!
